ABOUT US

The Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras is a dedicated initiative to document, preserve, and promote the rich cultural heritage of Panay (Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo) Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. We aim to safeguard the artifacts, structures, traditions, practices, and stories that have shaped the identity of these regions for generations..

Uncovering Heritage: Preserving the Cultural Landscape of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental

The Cultural Mapping Law or Republic Act No. 11961 strengthens the need for the protection and conservation of cultural heritages. Mandating the local government units to conduct comprehensive cultural mapping of their areas to foster identity formation and pride of place. The success of the Cultural Mapping of Antique paved the way for the Cultural Mapping of
Panay and Guimaras, extending the cultural registry and scope of implementation to the province of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.

One of the outputs of the CMPG project involves the creation of a website to provide public access to the existing list of natural and cultural heritage within Panay and Guimaras, including Negros Occidental. It shall also serve as a platform for news and updates about the cultural mapping activities in the region under the CMPG Project. The website will highlight the cultural heritages that the province of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental wish to feature. The website will also feature an interactive map for the users to operate and interact with, that will allow them to explore the province of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. In order to cater to the large amount of cultural heritage mapped, the website will display a catalogue of all mapped forms and allow the user to directly communicate should they wish to have a complete access of the mapped forms.

Whether you’re a researcher, educator, or curious traveler, the site offers valuable insights into the region’s cultural heritage, with updates on events, projects, and ways to get involved in safeguarding our heritage.
